Roger Newman Turner, ND, DO, BAc

Elder naturopath, osteopath, acupuncturist, author, and international lecturer whose long life of service helped carry nature cure traditions forward with grace and authority.

Professional Lineage

A practitioner shaped by an older naturopathic world

Roger Newman Turner is a retired practitioner of naturopathy, osteopathy, and acupuncture who practiced for 52 years in clinics established by his father, F. Newman Turner, a pioneering organic farmer and medical herbalist.

He stands as a living bridge to an older era of nature cure.

International Role

A British gentleman carrying naturopathy into the world

Throughout his life, Roger worked to raise awareness of the role naturopathy must play in global health care. He lectured and participated in conferences across Japan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, China, the United States, Australia, India, and Israel.

He also gave evidence to the House of Lords Select Committee on Complementary and Alternative Medicine in 1999.

Writing and Stewardship

Author, editor, trustee, and elder voice

Roger authored Naturopathic Medicine; Treating the Whole Person and several books on diet and health, contributed to encyclopedias and handbooks, edited the British Journal of Acupuncture for eleven years, and served in major trustee roles connected to complementary medicine and residential naturopathic care.

He also received The Beacon Award at the NMSA Gathering in 2010.

Why Roger Matters Here

An elder steward of the Nature Cure volume

Roger’s role in the Academy is far more than honorary. He helped carry the Nature Cure volume across the finish line, and his voice is the one guiding readers through the book in the Academy’s video introduction.

That makes his presence part of the living pulse of the site, not just its memory.

Elder Among Elders

Grace, authority, and continuity

Roger brings something rare: the steadiness of a true elder whose life and voice still steady the work.

He belongs at the heart of this Academy story.
